I'm still at least 7 Kg overweight. Actually, my weight hasn't changed...it's just that I've exchanged muscle for fat and the conversion hasn't been reversible. I'm manually splitting firewood for exercise so my arms are good but I need outright labor to get what I want (a trim waist). It's bitter cold...there's no going outside for anything beyond necessity.

104kgs at the minute. Well 104.5kgs. I put a pound on during Christmas day. I will rejoice if I can get down to 103kgs. Down to 103kgs. Yay. I had to take off my shirt to get the scale to say what I wanted it to say - but anyway, 103kgs. If I can lose another kg this week then I am starting to get close to what I was before I went on my eating binge and put on 5kgs. 103kgs is 227 pounds. Still massively heavy. I think I may go and buy a treadmill so I can walk during the dark winter nights.

Good for you to be proactive and buying a treadmill to walk on.

There are many forms of exercise i would like to participate in
however, because of my ischemic heart condition..
and the possibility of triggering angina pain from same
I stick to the more easy going perambulation of walking
several miles a day, it provides good circulation re oxygenating my heart
and equally I have been informed helps those of us. with diabetes.

PS., I might not burn so many calories but then at 69.5 kilos
I have no problem, at this point in time, on the weight front.

OK, I'm getting serious about this bulge at my waist. I went out back and cut up about a face cord of firewood (16"x 4'x 8') but then, I went out and ate an incredible meatloaf dinner which could have fed two men. I really need to pin this thing down...no more potatoes or bread. God...that's horrible. I love potatoes and bread. I'll start humiliating myself in public right here...every day. Maybe my ego will come through for me.

I had mashed potatoes for dinner. Are potatoes bad for a diet? Oh yeah...starch and carbs...bad news for anyone overweight. Are Potatoes Good Carbs? A potato's carbohydrates have a big impact on blood sugar. Most nutrient-rich complex carbohydrates like potatoes have a welcome role in a healthy diet. Unfortunately, the impact of the starch in potatoes can place them in the "bad carb" category for some people. While healthy individuals can tolerate them in moderation, the carbohydrates in potatoes are not a good choice for anyone who is diabetic or prediabetic or needs to keep her blood sugar balanced. Sugar and Starch Russet, red and white potatoes share similar sugar and starch profiles. One medium potato has 2 grams of sugar and 23 to 30 grams of starch. Sweet potatoes have more sugar -- 7 grams -- but about the same amount of starch. When they're digested, both carbohydrates are broken down into the simple sugar glucose. Starches usually take longer to digest, so in most complex carbohydrates they don't cause a boost in blood sugar. But the starch in potatoes is easier to break down and digest than many other starches, according to the Harvard School of Public Health. Fiber On the positive side, potatoes are good sources of dietary fiber. One whole medium russet, white or red potato has 3 to 4 grams and a sweet potato has 5 grams of fiber. Men should consume 38 grams and women need 25 grams of fiber daily. A whole medium potato with 4 grams of fiber supplies 11 percent of men's and 16 percent of women's recommended intake. Like most vegetables, potatoes contain both types of fiber, soluble and insoluble. Insoluble fiber prevents constipation by adding bulk to stool. Soluble fiber helps lower cholesterol and becomes gel-like in your stomach, which fills you up and helps you feel full longer. Glycemic Rating The glycemic index rates carbohydrates according to how quickly they raise blood sugar. The glycemic rating of potatoes indicates that their high starch content makes them a "bad" carb. Any score over 70 is high, indicating the food causes a rapid spike in blood sugar. A baked potato has a glycemic score of 111. Boiled white potatoes are rated 82, while sweet potatoes have a score of 70. If you're healthy, you can tolerate high glycemic foods in moderation, but they're a bad choice for anyone who must keep blood sugar balanced. So...it appears to be a toss up. If you're reasonably fit and non diabetic, potatoes are acceptable in moderation. All I know is; my wife dumped potatoes, pasta, and bread from her diet and lost 20 kg in 6 months...and she's kept the weight off.

Sure, I learned from the research too. Last night, while still reeling from the humongous meatloaf dinner, I made up two pizzas. I figured I'd refrigerate most of it for future use and eat a half of one. I'm accustomed to devouring an entire pizza at one sitting but that was before I developed my spare tire. I wound up actually eating less than a half...I am pleased. I've decided to depend on my will to lose 5 kg. I will continue to eat what I like but the portions will be drastically reduced. This is not the best time of year for me to do this stuff at all but I have no choice. Capricorn is almost over. Things will begin to ease up January 20 when Aquarius kicks in with its optimism and energy. Then, my own sign will dominate for a month. By March 21, the start of Aries and the best time to employ my will...the excess weight should be gone.

Today I have walked for half an hour on the treadmill. It was easier while watching Gilmore Girls on TV.
