I am going to write what is has been on my heart for about a year and I am going to say it on this web site, knowing full well that some of you are good people who have bad things happen to them. I am not here to explain why bad things happen to good people. But there was a New York Times Best Seller that explored this concept that you can pick up if you are interested. Clearly both bad things and good things happen to everyone. But there is no denying that good things happen to good people and I want to make some points.
My cousin ralph was nice to me when I came back to this country. Not overly nice but he was nice. He showed me the time of day and he was considerate. My other cousin George was not nice and said he didn't want to play Golf with me because I wasn't as good as he was. Not even one game.
I stopped talking to him and let George live his life. I kept in contact with Ralph though. Not all the time but 2 or 3 times per year.
Ralph suddenly had nowhere to live and no job. So I put him up in my house for 12 months. I did that for him not because he was family but because he had been a decent person to me. That favour happened to Ralph because he was a good person.
I look back at my own life - Once a woman bitterly complained about me at work and said I had been nasty to work with and rude and wanted me fired.
My Boss said "Hercules would never behave that way". And the complainant was sent packing on their bike. If you work for a long time eventually someone will make up a story about you and it has happened to me a few times.
The most inspirational thing my Father ever said to me was the following: "Hercules. The forces of darkness are quick to arrive at any opportunity. But you must wait them out because the good is coming. The powers of Good are galloping towards you as fast as they can to save you but they are coming from some distance away. Never doubt they are coming. People are inherrantly good and if temporarily blinded the goodness in people's hearts will prevail".
Now I personally don't care whether any of what he said is fundamentally true or not. Because if I choose to believe it is true then through the power of self fulfulling prophecies, my own expectations and subtle behaviours will make it come it true. So I choose to believe. I believe the good will rally around me and if you stay true the good will rally around you.
That is what was on my heart.
