I heard of that the rate of curability of schizophrenia is about 10--20 percent. Many of the patients would recollaps. the real rate of curability is even lower.

What is the definition of cured? No longer needing meds to be well?

In my view Walter once someone is diagnosed by a Psychiatrist
as having a particular mental health issue that if not contested
by a Doctor with a similar specialised area of expertise that diagnosis
cannot be repudiated.
That's not to say such an individual as a result of treatment medicine wise
is unable to gain remission, in terms of behavioural symptoms, but not cured.
What I gain from that... is that it is crucial to continue taking the medication, if such drugs are able to provide a sense of wellbeing by that I mean... of being able to allow one's function in all areas of life, that most people, without such a mental health challenge... take for granted.

PS., If I may make an analogy... I being an alcoholic,
even though I have not drank alcohol for a long time , does not
change my status and make me a former alcoholic.
All it does is qualify me for remission status .. it certainly doesn't
change the original diagnoses made in 1988, when I was hospitalised
for same, by a Doctor specialising in psychiatric medicine.
I say that, for I know if I start drinking again, it wouldn't be long before
I would be back where I was three decades ago... unable to function
as other human beings who don't rely on drink , to 'normalise' every day
communicating with others.
I trust that makes sense... if not let me know and I will try my best to
create further explanation Walter!

I hope one day science will find a cure Walter. It would benefit my son so much.
