Let's discuss Romans 8:28 "“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
All things work out of the good and not for the best according to this passage. Which contrasts with the popular secular best that everything works out of the best.
Imagine three CEOs who apply for a hypothetical vacant position of Microsoft CEO. Only one of them will get it. Will the other two be able to comfort themselves that everything works out for the best? No. But things will work out for the good for them. They will land well. Perhaps they will be CEO of a not for profit or become a high priced consultant.
Whatever path we take PROVIDED we are being obedient to God's teachings and honouring him as we make it then things will work out for the good.
Stop thinking about past decisions and worrying that the grass would have been greener with an alternate choice. The grass may have been greener but your grass will also be green.
Does this mean we can make whatever decision want including potentially dumb decisions?
No, far from it. We spoke in the last rant how this is not a real world. I stand by that however it rewards you for smart decisions. Consider and then act in a smart fashion. If you act in a smart fashion then things will turn out for the good.
Should you have taken that promotion ten years ago? It doesn't matter - things work out for the good.

Thanks for stopping in Sue. I remember your blog well "the kitchen table". If my thought even helps heal even one regret then I will be happy as it is easy to live in the rear view mirror and opportunities and cross roads come to us ten years before we are wise enough for them.

as i get older my regrets pile up I know what you mean Paul. I feel for you here. I have many regrets too. Not with Women though, or my career. We must live to forgive ourselves though as there is a time limit to make every decision and sometimes you just make a call and go with it. Cheer Hercules

I have regrets which mostly come from not acting in a wise manner. It is out of rashness that I get into trouble. If I could calm myself down and make a wise decision then I wouldn't have the regret of a poor choice.
