Hi
This is aimed at the Christians and AGnostics on the site rather than the atheists.
I want to go over some thoughts in a mini rant/thoughts download...
You may doubt the truth of what I am about to say...and that is your prerogative
Life is Hard.
It is the first three words on Scott M Peck's fabulous best seller "The Road less travelled." He then spends the next 400 pages unpacking why life is hard. And he gives psychological reasons relating to our inability to delay gratification and an inability to wait for hard times to pass and not make errant decisions during them.
I agree Life is Hard but come at it from a Christian perspective.
We live in a fallen world. A fallen world is one where the devil is master yet God peeps through the cracks to show the narrow path through a maze to salvation.
The devil or if that is upsetting - dark forces rain miserable circumstances down on the just and unjust alike. If you follow Christ then then miserable circumstance might be learned from and it may quicken you. Sometimes it doesn't need to do anything other than annoy or frustrate you. And I believe that the only thing you get out of it is character because you were able to not become unhinged by something that could have been very trying.
You don't need to look for the silver lining. The goal of going through these miserable times is not to become Christ like by developing your character further and further. The goal of these trials is the goal of the dark forces - it is to break you.
There it is in plain english. That which does not kill me makes me stronger. Perhaps that is true but that is not why these trials and sufferings are here. They are not here to make you stronger even though they may make you stronger and draw you closer to Christ, they are here to hurt.
I am going to give you some armour against Dark Forces and Sufferings.
1) Humility - hide behind Humility. Do not boast. Lie if needed. Do not accept credit for success. Give it to someone else. There will be very weak minded individuals in your workplace, community, or school who will see you as a threat and will want to do the work of Dark Forces. Relish being humble. It is your best defence. Do not speak with pride. Speak with humility. Use other peoples' logic to sell ideas to them and let all agreements and decisions be on their terms and not yours.
2) Realise and appreciate how powerful dark forces are. If God can intercede to put a shining Knight in your path, then dark forces can intercede to put a difficult individual in your life. Furthermore the sufferings that rain down on you will be brilliantly concocted and tailored for maximum irritation to you.
If you were hoping to watch the final episode of Oprah ever then this will be when your TV is repossessed. Laugh it off. Be amused at the intricate detail in the mouse trap that has been set for you. We are not living in a deterministic world completely.
"A deterministic algorithm, for example, if given the same input information will always produce the same output information."
We are living in a dynamic spiritual battlefield and it is everywhere around you. Surround yourself carefully with people you trust. People with good hearts.
My example, I was spoken to sharply and out of turn during a big presentation by the presenter. I sucked it up and didn't say anything back. But dark forces weren't satisfied that they didn't get me to react so it of course turned out our Vice President invited him back to speak at the next two meetings in a row. So I had to put up with him for another two meetings. I was unable to just shove his memory into the past and move on. Now here is the thing. I have been in the business world for twenty years...hardly ever does someone get invited back to talk more in a follow up meeting. Let alone two follow up meetings. But of course it happened here in my case. Because Dark Forces arranged it to be so.
This world is not "real" in a way. A real world would be one where things happened according to randomness and free will. We do have randomness and free will but we also have two forces altering events. Dark Forces are raining things down us. And Light Forces or God are there to show us a way through and give us positive thoughts to guide us through hard times. I am going to finish this TED talk with one incredible thing my Father said to me.
"When darkness surrounds you Hercules and there is no daylight in sight. Hunker down because three thousand leagues away Good men and Women are coming to help you. And they are powerful warriors who can be counted on. They are mounting their steeds and beginning their long journey to come and help you. Your job is to withstand the attack until they get there. Hold the fort Hercules. Hang on. Help is coming and is riding as fast as it can to get to you. You are valuable. The forces of Light will always over come."
Kia Kaha. Be awake all is not as it seems.
