So as mentioned I have been going through, and have now passed through, as predicted, an existential crisis.
I am left with some minor musings which I thought I would share.
In Luther-Kings landmark speech he wanted all men to be judged by the content of their character.
Is that what is inside of you the content of your character?
I think not. Your character is your ethics and guidelines and how you behave when a blowtorch is on you.
What is the inside of me? Perhaps my kindness, my generousity, my personality (which is different than my character), my sense of humour, my sense of fair play,
My spirit perhaps?
What is the real anybody?
Why do we like this person over that person? Perhaps because we share the same core. I don't think we like the same person because we share the same interests as plenty of people like rugby who I wouldn't share a beer with.
We like a person because our core inner self shares similarities to their core inner self, or alernatively there are aspects of them we aspire to be.
In my country we say the expression Kia Kaha to each other, a maori phrase which means stay strong. But what should stay strong? Not your courage or your convictions but instead we are saying keep the inner you strong, all of it, including your whacky sense of humour.
The French have a phrase - je ne sais quoi. [(zhuh nuh say kwah)] That little something; a quality that eludes description
Perhaps this french phrase describes then your essence. Perhaps it is something that can't be described at all?
