So I have read his book - please come into this thread to discuss any thoughts you have around him and his theories.
I still don't think I have fully digested the significance of his archetypes but yeah...
Ready to discuss...

As you know, I think Freud and Jung got there original concepts from astrology as did the Myers Briggs people. Jung's collective unconscious is also derived from speculation on astrological origins and mechanics. Your dreams do speak to you. With some effort, you will encounter some lucid dreams where you become aware of your role and the situation.

I had prophetic dreams that predicted my breakdown
I self sabotaged like crazy in my twenties until I addressed various acts of subtle dishonesty I had committed.
Today my boss presented a diagram that had a square shape enclosed in a circle. That's a mandala I nearly said out loud in the middle of the meeting.
The unconscious mind. It surfaces archetypes, according to Jung through dreams, psychotic episodes , mythology, the writings and teachings of alchemists, and artistic works where you let the subconscious lead ( rather than willing the subconscious to lead)
The archetypes reflect what we gravitate towards genuflecting to in this life.
We need to be on the look out for when we stumble across a real life person who behaves like an archetype. We may give them too much credence or not enough credence. Or we may not run from them when we should.

In my twenties, I used tons of drugs to gain access to different levels of consciousness and sometimes...to the subconscious. This was after I'd read Nietzsche, Kant, Schopenhauer, Sarte, Camus, etc. I say "read" rather than "studied" because I'd never concentrate on retention. Instead, I relied on my subconscious to perform that chore. It fits my archetype. I then discovered Astrology. This whole thing developed into something of a symbiotic relationship between my...selves.
I think psychosis develops when the conscious is overwhelmed by subconscious perceptions. We see, but cannot interpret the imagery, and withdraw. The subconscious gains actual control over some of our most critical functioning and madness follows...till our (conscious) will can prevail. We need our subconscious to do that. Inter-self communication requires manipulation and correct interpretation of both conscious and subliminal symbolism. Dreams are one channel...there are more direct means involving simultaneous (conscious and subconscious) use of archetype interplay.
Knowledge of your Moon sign can inform you of your (subconscious) instinctive emotional makeup. Knowledge of your Ascendant sign gives you the access to "archetype interplay"...our psychological persona.
Knowledge of your Sun sign sharpens and focuses your conscious perceptions.
It's simpler than you might imagine. The really hard work of observation, interpretation, and notation was performed by wise men of ancient times. Freud and Jung complicated the methods so they could claim some sort of originality. Jung was more honest (and intelligent) and gave recognition to Astrology but he too tinkered with the science to evolve his own brand.

I have a great deal of respect for psychiatric medicine
and in those earlier years Freud and Jung became the pioneers of same.
And although Freud is seen as the father of such treatment in my view Jung
came out top as being more open to technique and criticism.
One of the subjects that sticks in my mind is his labelling of those with opposing personality traits, highlighting those over the top vs others who were much more diffident. in their utterances.
I am talking about the definitions of extravert and introvert .

Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Gemini Libra, and Aquarius are positively charged Fire and Air signs and represent half the population and all the extroverts.
Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are Earth and Water signs of negative orientation. They represent the other half of the population and all the introverts.
There will be variations within the theme inasmuch as it involves only the Sun sign and the purely conscious element of our personalities. With further information gleaned from a natal birth chart one can interpret one;s Moon sign and purely subconscious data. With the exact time and locale of birth you can find your adaptive persona ala your Ascendant sign. This particular feature is composed of complementary conscious and subconscious construction. It is the part of us most open to psychiatric manipulation. Thing is; with the information gained from Astrology, some personal courage, and nominal intelligence...you don't need psychiatry. You study who you are, what you were, and whom you are trying to become...all exposed by the data from your natal chart. The Zodiac signs are archetypes...the mechanics of Astrology can be explained and used.
David, I know your feelings regarding Astrology...that's your choice and I respect it. Many people regard the science as a joke. I'm never surprised anymore...after all, Trump's in office.

Jung used Astrology David, including intro/extrovert definition ...that's the connection. There's no devious agenda.

Still not sure what that has to do with my positive acceptance of Jung...
Whether he believed/followed in astrology or not makes no difference... in my praise of such a unique human being as a result of his major contribution to mankind when it comes to the psyche .

I admire Jung but he never paid adequate homage to the source of his inspiration....Freud was worse. I'm glad you appreciate the man.
