I think a lot of what we feel about ourselves comes from criticism or compliments. My mom always tells my brother and I that we are good looking. So it boasted my confidence. But in actually fact, I am too overweight to be considered pretty but I think when I was thinner I looked pretty good.
And is it important whether you see yourself as pretty or handsome? Maybe it doesn't matter as long as you can succeed at life.

Oh for Pete's sake, Herc, from what you say yourself, you are not fat. You might be carrying a few extra pounds, but you probably notice it far more than anyone else does.
I feel certain that I am too old and fat to be considered pretty any more. I think I have always looked unapproachable, so it's impossible to know what most other people thought when I was younger. The first day I met my future husband, though, back in 1974, he told me I was beautiful. Sweet man.
I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder, for sure. In a global forum like this one, it can be worthwhile to remember that beauty can vary widely across different cultures.
I know one thing. I think Chelle and Charne are both beautiful. I just wish Chelle wasn't so ill.

When I was a middle school student, some girl in my class said that I was handsome even I was more handsome than some celebrities. I think that they were flattering me. Actually, now I am fat and bald.

When I was in my twenties my partners told me I was handsome, but it meant nothing to me as I figured "you would think that since you are dating me". That said I was good looking enough to land dates with some nice looking ladies. Doesn't happen now  |

When I was young I was pretty but I am old now and the meds have added 25kgs...but beauty comes from within at my stage of life...if I can be kind towards all I am happy these days.

I really love Sue's statement about kindness. I have always had the feeling that Sue is a very kind person, and the people around her should realize what a blessing that is.
I have had many kind people in my life and have loved and appreciated them. It is not in my nature to be overtly kind, and I have to confess that I really envy people who naturally and easily have that quality. I think kind people do not realize how it feels to others to be around them, but it is a comforting and loving feeling that is without compare, in my mind.
