My computer was compromised last night
by a persistent warning that I was being hacked.
This alert was supposed to be from Microsoft windows.
It gave me a phone number to call to sort it out.
On ringing same I was asked for several hundred pound to solve the problem...or my computer would be rendered useless.
I put my phone down on them and rang my partner Don who is more tech savvy than I.
He talked me through eradicating such malware and thanks to his instruction, I am now up and running again.

It may be a UK site...
however, there is stuff here, if you browse same,
I am sure you will find suggestions that are relevant
no matter where in the world you are located...
Prevention, is better than looking for a cure.. methinks!

I accept that you don't necessarily wish to [provide feedback
because it did not affect you...
I just hope that wherever you live in the world.. you don't have a similar experience!

And if unfortunately you do
that you are able to deal with it
as attempted fraud as opposed to
being robbed as a result of same
of money you can ill afford to lose!

David, so sorry to hear that you had this unfortunate situation. My husband went through the same thing a few months ago. He actually paid the scammers with his credit card! When I found out what had happened, I got Microsoft and the credit card company on the phone, and reported them for the frauds they are.
On Friday I had news that one of my credit cards was compromised. Criminals and thieves! We are surrounded by them these days! Grrrr!
