I have finished here are some of my thoughts.
I don't know which side Crake was playing for. Why was he so curious about Jimmy's mother.
The Crakers are supsicious Snowman is having them on about some things.
How physically big are the crakers.
I don't know why the character Jimmy needed to have had such a sordid past with illicit affairs etc. I understand characterisation but where are we going with all that.

I am unsure of the motives behind Crake's pills. Was he trying to destroy everyone had have a race of new people in the world after him? Did he foresee that he would be killed off? Was he also vaccinated? I do not remember how Jimmy first meet Oryx. The time she was tell him her story before Crake had hired her to work for him.
I was scary to hear about all the people dying off like that. And I thought there would be a reason he was called snowmen all this time and it seemed like he only thought of it off the top of his head and made a fly by name for the Crakers to call him.
Sorry I cannot answer your questions as I do not get it myself. I was bored with the book until it hit the half way point. Then it unravels and become interesting.

Sorry I cannot answer your questions as I do not get it myself. I was bored with the book until it hit the half way point. Then it unravels and become interesting. 1) No - Jimmy only meet Oryx after he saw her at Crake's workplace. The earlier mention and dialogue between Oryx and Jimmy in a much earlier chapter was just Jimmy's memory. 2) I don't know why Crake did it. Perhaps one of his workers did it without Crake's knowledge but this is unlikely since Crake's injection made him serrendipitiously immune from it. 3) Yes Crake wanted Jimmy to kill him - that is why he slit Oryx's throat so Jimmy would react. Which makes me suspect that Oryx was under Crake's instructions to form a relationship with Jimmy. Why would she want Jimmy if she could have Crake. 4) I don't know how Snowman will introduce himself to these people. If I were him I would sneak off and go and get a sheet to wrap around himself. Since he is naked at the end behind the bush spying on them.

Thanks for the explainations, it makes more sense now. Shall we wait until Feb. 19 to select our next book selection, as that is the 2 month date from when your book arrived in the mail. This way we can read what we want to in between books from the book club.

Hercules, What rating would you give this book? I would give it 3 stars out of 5. I enjoyed the latter half so much more than the first half.

I enjoyed the lack of description and how we just got on with the story. Not 5 stars though as a lot of the story seemed meaningless ie where are we going with the fact he lived with his girlfriend for 6 months after graduating from Martha Stewart.

Do you want to maybe do a book club 401(b) and 401(c) where we read the other books in that M Atwood trilogy. Or should we save those two other books and read them in due course?

I would rather do a part B and C then wait for my selections in between. As this would make remembering the former book more easy. If it doesn't make any difference to you. Could we do part B the second book next on Feb. 19th? My selection can wait until after we finish the trilogy.
I am in the middle of reading The Nest right now and could like to finish East of Eden before Feb. 19th. That is my goal. Great idea by the way.

OK cool let's do that then Oryx and Crake; The Year of the Flood; MaddAddam

Hi Hercules,
How is your reading coming along? Are you enjoying the second book of the series by M. Atwood? Or are you on the third book already?
As for me, I haven't been finishing books that I started in the last few months but one book took me only 4 days to zip thru was Crazy Rich Asians. That was a good read for me. But Anne Frank's story I only got 25% done with the book. Other books I haven't finished either but I hope in September we can start our book club again.
Happy Reading.
