Near freezing...it's sleeting for the first time since last March. Good, now I have an excuse to avoid cutting wood tomorrow...the tree I dropped yesterday will be coated with ice. I'm so damned lazy. I know full well that once I begin moving, the task will become easy and possibly pleasant. It's just that first shot of motivation that seems to elude me. Any tricks for kick starting ambition?

David there were fires in areas that I thought were fireproof...at times I couldnt see across the road for smoke, but that is just what is was...smoke blown in from the Pinery fires...however being a disabled pensioner they offered to relocate me as I was elderly...lol...well I wasnt going anywhere...if I was evacuating I was going to the hospital with my dog because I knew pdoc would know what to do.I live on a hill...the flooding was spectacular...I wished I had a kyak it looked like so much fun you would have thought it was a water park...however the rain has produced knee high grass now which will dry off and be perfect tinder for another fire, I think we all have evacuation plans in place, horses have phone numbers permanently marked on their hooves...there werent enough guns at one stage to put the burnt livestock out of their misery, one friend was on his farm shifting a tree branch when another fell on him...14 fractures, he was out of hospital just before Christmas but the town provided everything they needed down to presents for the grand kids, another friend had 70% of his body burnt...he is just out of hospital this week and on the front page of our local paper...face burnt to bits , no hands...so us Aussies monitor the weather pretty closely and we get up dates to our mobile phones...so when you pop into town you talk about the weather because as clever as we think we are nature is the boss....my mates in NZ are in strife too.

We learnt so much from the Pinery fires last year, they were devastating to this area, towns we thought were fire proof are gone....however we get text messages letting us know what the situation is and I now have a battery radio to keep informed...the power gets cut.As I am considered disabled and elderly....eeek...there is a plan in place for them to evacuate me in the first instance along with others in similar situations. My Pdoc rang the weekend our town was flooded to see if I was OK....he is the most amazing human I have ever met and he has'nt chucked the towel in with me in over 10 years,

The real Winter is showing up here tomorrow. The temps will not go above freezing for several days...that's when it gets real. We won't hit the next pain plateau for a few weeks (hopefully)...sub zero, for several days. I reinsulated some drains that are subject to these conditions...don't want any water problems.

Stay warm Keith!! I think we are getting it too so I will have to drag out my long winter coat. The wind gets so bad here by the lake.
