Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Good people of the Temporaysocialforum or TSF for short. Please weigh in on the following questions:
1) Right now we have 9 members who have registered. I have closed the forum off to guests. Was that the right move - or do we want guests to view our posts? 2) If the answer is yes we want guests to view the site are we ok if they join for some random reason? I suppose I could pass a rule that all new members who I don't know are on probation for their first 20 posts and then I fire them into the abyss if they are a trouble maker.
That was all.
If any other questions come up I will add to this thread.
Please weigh in.

I would think you'd want guests to be able to view posts but not comment without joining. I don't think there should be any qualifications for new members. You can use polls to determine democratic governing. Right now, I'd focus on growing the site...the more the merrier.

I think it important that guests are able to observe proceedings of members even if they can't post, for without guests how would be able to entice new members to join us.
Just my thoughts as ever, if we are to grow as a community?

Right...you have that option. It's just that here we are and why not grow? If we can interest people to participate through shear provocation or empathy...why not? One thing I'd like to emphasize is: we all...just started here. This is an opportunity to transcend limitations...let's start by being open.

A couple of things 1 I will attempt to merge this thread with the town hall thread when I am in front of my laptop
2 I think this is a fairly big decision to make so I would like more people to weigh in before we reach consensus.
3 this may need to be a decision that we need to agree to revisit every two months or so.
4 I myself could go either way on this issue. If it is a locked Group then I may make more personal disvclosures if it is open then we could meet more people.
5 what do we gain by letting guests read our posts. They were reading them previously and no one joined in the last 12 months. So we could be a moot point.
6 what is the role of this temporary site is it just for socialising or should there be a health concerns sub forum. And if so would that put some new members off.
So many questions. For the time being we won't be changing crysalis until more members give opinions.

I only want to be a part of something alive and growing. If this site is merely an adjunct to something I considered leaving...say so.

I only want to be a part of something alive and growing. If this site is merely an adjunct to something I considered leaving...say so. No blackmail plox. Just group consensus. Let people weigh in and vote over the next few days Keith, right now people are just taking their slippers off so to speak so don't be in a rush and let the conversation play out I don't know which way it will go. and you may like to try to have a conversation with Crysalis, I was going to pick up a few points with her namely, no guest knows who Crysalis is...and they won't figure it out, no matter how many times you post. Please explain a bit more what you are worried about.

Hmmm. The most I uncovered is that I can make the blogs invisible and general discussion visible to guests. if anyone else wants to weigh in on this discussion feel free

Thanks for this post crysalis and being willing to compromise with some middle ground ( the blogs being hidden and general discussion being open) Like you I would be more comfortable if more members weighed in with a view. I will try to add a poll tonight and also send out a message promoting this thread.

I am no longer ashamed of my illness Hercs and at my age to educate others seems a valid reason for all the pain this illness causes...in my absence I no longer hide my illness and so have ended up with a support network of people that accept me and support me knowing that I have mental health issues preventing me from leading what they consider a "normal" life.

I think it's important to both take privacy into consideration for those who have paranoia but at the same time to grow the group.
I like crysalis's idea of keeping the blogs private and then the social forum opened.

I think it's good to keep guests from posting unless they sign up. Other than that, everything is relative!

1) Team based on your input I am going to open up the general discussion forum to guests later today. I am giving 12 hours notice in case you wish to adjust your avatar or have any final comments. As discussed I will also make the blogs "private to members only".
2) @metasegue I hope you are ok with that compromise. Secondly I have an offer for you. To encourage members to join we need someone to make a post encouraging them to do so and explaining the background and purpose of this site so that they know what they are joining. If you are interested you might like to contribute some thoughts and I can add it to the opening post in the Welcome thread.
Let me know if anyone has any concerns.
