Yikes, I am having such a mental block about these meeting minutes. I was already putting them off
to begin with, when the guy that has to approve them (before they can be printed and distributed)
went out of town... for a week, and then he was sick last week. And yet, I can not make myself do
these stupid minutes. It has been 2 weeks and 1 day since the meeting. What on earth is my mal-
function? And how can I get started?
I have gone over my feelings:
** As it isn't possible to get every word written down while taking the notes during the meeting,
so will I even get it right?
** I don't have to impress the guy, but I do want his approval that I did a good and appropriate job.
** I probably spend way too much time on getting everything done just so (and perfect ) from
what font, size of font, the right words, the proper way to say things, etc... after all, I haven't had
any professional training.
** I don't get paid anything for this, not even a rate reduction. It is all voluntary.
** I didn't actually volunteer for this... The President of the group came to me personally, and asked
me to take over, as their previous Secretary was in the hospital and not doing well. Anyway, it is
awful hard to turn down something when the person asking is standing right there in front of you.
But, I did try to turndown the position with several reasons (poor typist, no printer, no training,
procrastinator...) but in the end, I just couldn't say no. And here I am.
And here I sit unable to get started. The approval guy wants to see it before I print it so he can make
sure that he didn't say too much, or say something he shouldn't have. I thought I should close myself
off in my apartment, until it is done. But that is like telling a kid to go to his room when he is in trouble
and his room is a toy factory. I can find all kinds of stuff to do put off this task. Even the most mundane
of tasks is better than creating and typing up these stupid minutes.
I have thought of giving my phone to a friend until I get the minutes done, but what if someone calls
about something important, and I like to listen to music while working on the minutes, kind of neutral
noise.
If the approval guy comes in today, then I need to have his portion of the minutes done before he leaves
for the day anywhere around 3-5 pm. The rest of it doesn't have to be approved, and I could finish it after
that. And then, take it downstairs for printing, and then I am done.
Just. Have. To. Get. Started. Just got to try to have his portion ready before 3 pm. Even if he doesn't make
it in, I must get it going.
UGH
