I think that the 3rd world countries have been opportunistic by telling the west to compensate them for not using coal production...everybody needs to cut Co2 emisions...because people don't want to pay those subsidies measured in the trillions they then baulk and convince themselves climate change isn't real.
It is all down to cash $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$444

I don't have much hope that we can do much to help with global warming. It costs too much and it involves all the nations of the world. And it can't be fixed short-term. I do believe it is real and it will cause some problems. But as of yet I can't get politically passionate about it.
But on the other hand, what happens if we lose hope and do nothing. . .will it lead to our ultimate demise? Does the public think it through? And then what do you say, "I don't care?" You don't care about our survival on this planet?
Ideally we should spend millions of dollars to combat global warming. But we don't have the political will.

We could solve the problem quickly and relatively easy. The Chinese are currently militarizing space. If that same effort were applied to solar converters, mazer transmitters, and ground stations...we'd soon have a clean alternative source of energy. If the oil companies encouraged research rather than suppressing it...technology would prevail. Between fear and greed lies reason.
I suggest you all become as energy independent as possible. Consumer attitudes can alter destiny. Instead of buying the next whiz bang smart phone...check out self assembled home solar collectors. I have a building project coming up this Summer. I'll incorporate a passive solar water heater for the pool which could heat house water as well. In the pic below, the corrugated PVC tubes are covered by black roofing material which absorbs light while protecting them from UV rays. The whole thing is enclosed, placed on a roof, and filled with water. 10 gallons,135 degrees...in 30 minutes of full summer sun. With a pump and a timer...I'll have a hot tub pool. With some well placed plumbing...I've have hot water in the house. This thing will cost around $200.00 because I already have some of the materials (glass and lumber). It'll be fun.

Right...good example of independence and especially important because it provides power for emergency communications. We need to begin thinking in different terms when it comes to our power needs. The oil, coal, and utility companies hate that possibility. Information is now available and free for individuals to construct their own utility. Tesla is transforming energy supply with a battery factory in the Nevada desert and a roof covered with solar converters:
At this point in my life, I'm not trying to revolutionize anything beyond my own world. However, with the world's knowledge at my fingertips and an ability with tools...I'll get us off the polluting (and very vulnerable) grid.

Everyone has solar panels here...not me...too dear...and we have wind power turbines...the problem is when it gets unbearably hot there is no wind, no wind, no power so we are known as the state of the long black out as compared to New Zealand the country of the Long White cloud...it is that bad that industry are buying back up generators, unfortunately our hospitals found out too late they did not have enough back up generators to sustain life and many babies had to be hand ventilated for days...yes that is days, frozen embryos were lost...we have been told to become more self reliant. Our power was state owned but sold to the chinese 16 years ago on a 99 year lease, our power bills have sky rocketed and there has been no basic maintenance of the infra structure...I guess I will get a generator at some stage and learn how to switch over from the grid...I lost so much food I had stockpiled in the freezer it really put me behind the 8 ball....I can live on rice so my money went to feed my pets....it is absolutely a disgrace.

A 5,000 watt generator will push any appliance but not all at once. You have to set up the breaker box for access from the generator so you can switch the feed from one circuit to another. A gallon of fuel will run it for 4 hours. With some care, you can keep cool, wet, and safe. These can be bought for around $300.00 here...on sale. Under normal weather conditions, you'd only have to fire it up for 15 minutes every 4 hours to keep your food. A 12 volt car battery (charged during that time) can provide lights taken from an old scrap car. A car horn hooked up to it, with a switch at your bedside, is a pretty good defense against intruders and is an alert for your neighbors.

Thanks Keith...generators are more expensive here I think it is mainly the food and a fan I would want to keep going...I have the best security service on 4 legs...NO ONE enters my property without him going off...I have a door bell but nobody ever rings it Mozart has them pegged well before that...as for lights I have got battery operated ones for the important room like the loo...and I don't mind the dark...I think I would have to get a farmer I know to show me how to hook things up...otherwise it might be suzy on the barbie...I am a bit dangerous with electricity..lol...but thank you I will check out that size generator...my Dad was a windmill mechanic..but he is in heaven so no use to me now, on the station you would just hear the wirr wirr at night of the generator in the outback...amazing memories, crazy that I live in town and have to think of such things.
Cheers for the info.

Your limited needs will permit a smaller generator. 3,000 watts will keep your freezer freezing and a fan spinning. This is my 300th post here...something I had my eye on. I used to come here when bored by the real world...not lately. We are expecting 60F by Sunday...happy Spring. The weather is the least of my concerns now.

Happy 300th Keith...I am 222 so far.
No March can be our hottest month here, Spring is lovely. We are in the season for baby lizards and things and my cat delights in bringing baby lizards about 1 1/2 inches long and made of jelly with little legs that cant outrun the cat...so I rescue them and put them back in the garden....those that are still alive. It is also the season for snakes and we have brown snakes here, quite poisonous...no they don't get rescued...they kill animals...and flys and mosquitos which are having a bumper season with all the tropical rain we have had...so I am expecting more power outages...
Enjoy the Spring weather, I am a Spring born baby...lol

We actually sat out on the deck this afternoon...the sun was glorious. Page (my cat) jumped from melting snow and ice stretches to green patches of ground where she'd lie in the warm rays.
We were slammed early this winter with sub zero temps and they hung on for weeks. Apparently, that's all over. Barring something unforeseen, we're going to cruise into March (and Spring) with above freezing temps.
I've never felt so balanced and poised. As if in preparation for some feat...my mind is still...waiting. My behavior hasn't changed much beyond a normal age generated decadence exemplified by the amount of time I spend lying around doing little work. I know that's not good for me...I'll soon light up.

I do believe I'm losing it. I couldn't guess what was tweeking my brain ("I've never felt so balanced and poised. As if in preparation for some feat...my mind is still...waiting.") It's February 19...the start of Pisces. Duh! Always, at the beginning of my sign, I get this little vibe that seems to say...tune in. I always do.

I hope this trend continues for the Aries folk, spring is always iffy weather wise from one day/week to the next it seems. A few years ago my birthday was on Good Friday this year Easter is in the middle of April, I'll have to look into how they determine when Easter is going to be.
I think I know what you mean, I always kinda feel at my peak at the beginning during my season too like I have more energy
